Description
An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is a unique identifier for books, allowing publishers, libraries, and retailers to efficiently manage inventory and sales. To generate an ISBN, follow these steps:
- Register with the National ISBN Agency: Visit your country’s designated ISBN agency (e.g., Bowker in the U.S., Nielsen in the U.K.) to apply for a unique ISBN. Some agencies allow individuals to purchase one ISBN, while others offer them in blocks for publishers.
- Provide Book Information: When applying, you’ll be asked to provide details such as the title, author, format, edition, and publisher. These details are linked to the ISBN.
- Receive and Assign: After processing, you’ll receive your ISBN(s). Each version (hardcover, paperback, ebook) of a book requires its own ISBN.
- Barcode Generation: Use the ISBN number to generate a barcode for printing on the back cover. This can be done using online barcode generators or through services provided by the ISBN agency.
